9th & D Homeless Shelter

On many Wednesday nights from November through April we provide the evening meal at the 9th & D Streets Homeless Shelter which is operated by the Salvation Army for the city of Modesto. It takes about 15 volunteers each week to make this ministry happen. Below are the roles needed each week, sign-up at church or email the office to get your name on the list for a specific date. This ministry represents about $5000 of local outreach that we are engaged in each year. Please join us.

Kitchen Help
We need 3 to 4 volunteers each week to work in the church kitchen from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. to help cook the meal. A lead cook is in place, if you can chop, stir, wash, and mix, we can train you for the rest.

Serving Help
A group of  8 volunteers takes the meal from the church to the shelter, serves the guests, and then returns to the church to do the dishes. Children are welcome to be a part of the team that goes and serves, although at least half of the group should be youth or adults. Volunteers need to be at church by 6:00 p.m. and are usually finished by shortly after 8:00 p.m.

Desserts
A volunteer or two prepares dessert for 120 people  and needs to have it at the church by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday nights. Ideal desserts include cookies, brownies, cupcakes, items that can easily be served without a lot of work.
