Stone Soup Dinner

Join the Modesto Church of the Brethren Youth Group and Project Hope from Modesto High School on Saturday, Feb. 4th from 5pm-7:30pm at the Modesto Church of the Brethren (2301 Woodland Avenue Modesto, CA) for a Stone Soup Dinner. Veggie Minestrone soup will be served and all proceeds to benefit nonprofits. The MCOB youth will send proceeds to Love 146 dealing with human sex slave trafficking and Project Hope will send proceeds to Haiti Relief efforts. Canned goods will go to Interfaith Ministries.

$7 for adults, $5 for children and please bring one nonperishable food item.

Childcare will be provided. Stay after and enjoy refreshments immediately following. There will also be a Free Will offering for Inter-Faith Ministries for those wishing to bring canned goods or nonperishables AND/OR cash/checks that can be made to IFM.

Listening Session for the District Special Response Hearing

As follow up to conversations held in the Fall of 2010 surrounding a query from Annual Conference regarding homosexuality, all participants in churches within the Pacific Southwest District of the Church of the Brethren are now invited to attend a District Listening Session at our church, The Modesto Church of the Brethren, to be held Sunday, January 16^th from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Feedback from this event will be sent to the Standing Committee of the denomination, who will then use feedback from all district listening sessions to render a recommendation regarding the query to the next Annual Conference in June of 2011.

Agape Satyagraha Coach Training

Interested in working with local youth and teaching them peace making skills? The Agape Satyagraha program teaches children ages 10-18 conflict resolution, mediation, communication and anger management among other topics. Coaches are expected to work in small groups of youth and help them move up throughout five levels at their own individual pace. If you are interested in becoming a Peace Coach, call the Modesto Church of the Brethren and speak with Leah prior to the trianing session.

Training will be Saturday Jan. 30th from 10am-3pm.

John McCutcheon Concert

Come and enjoy the music of artist John McCutcheon and help raise funds for the Modesto Peace/Life Center. The concert begins @ 7:00pm on Tuesday January 18th, 2011, at the Modesto Church of the Brethren (2301 Woodland Avenue).

Graffiti Clean Up Day

As a community and as neighbors, we continue to work to be a part of the neighborhood in which our church home resides. One way to do this is to help our neighbors and work along side of them to clean up the neighborhood, including graffiti. We meet every second Saturday of the month in the parking lot off of Woodland Avenue at 9:00am. Everyone and anyone is welcome!

Study Circles on Race & Diversity in Stanislaus County

Presented by the Modesto/Stanislaus NAACP and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Modesto/Stanislaus NAACP and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship will sponsor a 6-month study circle on Race and Diversity in Stanislaus County. Conversation circles will take place the second Thursday of every month beginning October 8, 2009 and ending March 11, 2010.The purpose of the conversation circles will be to open community dialogue in a friendly setting to discuss issues of race and diversity. The goal is to build bridges of understanding between citizens of different background and lifestyles. “I am excited about the Study/Action Circles and hope they will build bridges of understanding and cooperation between the varied groups in our community. The Modesto area and each of us individually will gain from these connections,” stated Reverend Grace Simons, Pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Will occur every 2nd Thursday of the month @ 6:00pm at the Modesto Church of the Brethren.

Kids, don’t miss out on the fun! Come to Peace Camp – July 12-16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Things that make for Peace is our theme for this first Peace Camp at the Modesto Church of the Brethren. We will explore words that mean peace in different languages, and explore what it takes for peace to happen – within ourselves, in our families and communities, with creation, and throughout the world.

Cost is $10 per person. Registration forms will be available soon.
